Authorities in Lakes State are investigating a road accident that has left three people dead and others injured at Roorcuol-Akhol, Malou-pac Payam of Cueibet County in Lakes State.

Lt. Col. Daniel Majuec Mayek, the Director of Traffic Police in Lakes State, said they have arrested the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident.

“A car travelling from Juba to Wau in Western Bhar el Ghazal overturned at Malou-pech border in Tonj South after it tyres burst,” Mayek said.

He accused the driver, who killed and injured the people, of driving in very high speed. According to the traffic police official, the driver and the conductor of the vehicle sustained minor injuries. The injured were rushed to Tonj Hospital in Warrap State, for treatment, he added.

Lt. Col Mayek urged the drivers to stop driving in high speed and to maintain traffic rules to avoid causing accidents.

“The road does not belong to you alone. There are people and anything can happen if you are reckless and refuse to observe traffic rules,” he said.

“Meanwhile the road is not good and we know it all when it rains than the roads become impassible and these need drivers to drive vehicles at a reasonable speed.

Mayek advised the drivers to be considerate of the road users and passengers, as their lives as squarely on their hands.

Meanwhile, Laat Kon Ater, Lakes State Coordinator for Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), regretted the tragic incident.

“There are more accident incidences that are killing people on our roads. This is due to reckless driving and over-speeding. This has to be addressed,” he said.
