Besieged US President Donald Trump has revealed his plan to snub Joe Biden’s inauguration come January 20, 2021, as the 46th president.
Trump, who has been at the centre of criticism over the bloody protest which took US Capitol hostage on Wednesday, has been cagey on heeding to calls to concede.
“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th,” Trump wrote on Twitter.
Ever since the US held the election on November 3, 2020, President Trump has been critical of the electoral process after he lost to the Mr Biden. Trump garnered 232 against Biden’s 306 Electoral College votes and also lost on the popular votes.
His tongue lashing has contributed to a divided political atmosphere in a country that has always been revered as the cradle of democracy. They are the divisions that Biden has shown the intention of mending ever since clinching the victory in the poll.
While giving his victory speech at his hometown in Wisconsin, alongside Kamala Harris, Biden declared that his presidency would be all-inclusive and would ensure that political leaders work in harmony regardless of their political affiliation.
Twitter strikes
Trump has continued his onslaught on the electoral process, often urging his supporters to stand for him. But the ramifications of his outburst have been atrocious with the apogee of violence being witnessed on Wednesday this week, when his supporters caused havoc in the Congress.
Social media company Twitter has therefore announced permanent closure of Mr Trump’s Twitter account citing possible trigger of further violence.
“After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence,” Twitter company said in a tweet.
This precedes another disciplinary action by Facebook in which CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company was suspending Mr Trump’s account till the end of his term.
Yesterday, the American press reported that a section of legislators were planning to table a second impeachment motion against Trump on account of failing the bar of leadership.
