South Sudan’s holdout opposition, the United People’s Alliance (UPA) has accused the government with whom it’s in talks of breaking the Tumaini-agreed protocols.

Lual Dau, UPA Spokesperson said the parties to the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) have reneged on the eight agreed protocols, which were the result of the sustained negotiation and compromised by the parties and stakeholders to the Tumaini Initiative.

Dau made the remarks during the presentation of his party’s position in Nairobi to the stakeholders on Thursday in the media.

He claimed that the R-TGoNU delegation came with a hardline position to delete all the protocols that the negotiation parties to the Tumaini agreed upon last year.

“On behalf of the United People Alliance UPA, I would like to inform our people, the region, and the international community that the RTGoNU has reneged from the agreed eight protocols which are the results of the sustained negotiation and compromise by the parties and stakeholders,” he stated.

Dau continued that the RTGoNU delegation came with the hardline position to delete all the agreed protocols and for the opposition to be incorporated into the RTGoNU to implement the R-ARCSS which their signatories failed to implement.

“The RTGoNU has let down and disappointed to deliver the expected peace and reconciliation to the people of South Sudan,” Dau stated.

“The R-ARCSS is a dead agreement. It will never be implemented because of lack of political will,” Dau claimed.

The opposition group called on the citizens to support and rally behind many consensus to be signed as agreed to rescue the country from collapse.

Dau hinted that the Tumaini initiative would usher South Sudan into sustainable peace and good governance.

“Everything we have presented today is relevant to rescue our country,” he added.

He also explained why they rejected to sign the revitalized peace agreement in Khartoum in 2018, saying Sudan’s government did not focus on solving the conflict in South Sudan.

“When we went to Khartoum in 2018, what the Khartoum government did instead of trying to solve the conflict in South Sudan, they decided by making sure that they benefit from us.”

The UPA spokesperson said their focus is not position, saying they are looking for the interests of the people of South Sudan.

“We are looking for an agreement that will finally address all the root causes of the conflict. We are not here as UPA looking for a position,” Dua indicated.

Utilities “On behalf of the United People Alliance UPA, I would like to inform our people, the region, and the international community that the RTGoNU has reneged from the agreed eight protocols,” Lual Dau, United People’s Alliance spokesperson
