Authorities in Abyei Special Administrative Area in collaboration with Youth Organization for Peace Support (YOPS) on Friday distributed food items to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Abiemnom County.
The items distributed include sugar, rice, washing soaps and beans.
Speaking to the media during the distribution, Deng Makuch Kiir, the Chairperson of YOPS, assured the IDPs of their continued commitment to assisting the IDPs in Abyei Administrative Area until the security situation in Abiemnhom improves.
Makuch acknowledged the role played by Abyei authorities in boosting the organization’s efforts to support the affected 1,579 households.
On her part, Sarah Alak, Deputy Chairperson of YOPS, appealed for support from the humanitarian agencies to stand in solidarity with the Organization to render necessary support to the displaced persons in Abyei.
The community was displaced by a recent attack carried out by a group of armed youth from Mayom County of Unity State.
The youth stormed Abiemhnom town and seized control of the area, resulting in several deaths and displacement.
