A civil society activist and human rights defender from Jonglei State has welcomed Governor Mahjoub Biel Turuk’s decision to conduct peace rallies in the counties.

In a statement released Wednesday, Bol Deng Bol, the Executive Director of INTREPID South Sudan applauded the Governor’s efforts in enhancing peace among the communities.

“The recent peace rallies conducted in almost all the counties by the government of Jonglei State led by the governor are highly commendable,” Bol said.

“It is true that one can see the log in another person’s eyes when he has removed the log in his own eyes. Such efforts create peace among communities.”

Bol urged the citizens of Jonglei state and the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) to embrace peace to enhance peaceful coexistence.

“I am appealing to the government of Jonglei state and GPAA counterpart to meet often through high-level dialogues to ascertain feasible measures in mitigating the protracted inter-communal violence in the region,” the activist added.

“This is a necessary and urgent investment to save lives and properties and as a result, pave the way for development in various spheres of life,” he added.

However, Bol urged the state government to expedite the resettlement of the internally displaced persons and prepare them for the upcoming farming season.

Last week, Governor Biel conducted peace rallies in parts of northern Jonglei State, including Uror and Akobo Counties.
