The SPLM Secretary General advised the new governor, Dr. Riek Gai, that it is time to end the prevalent inter-communal conflicts in the state.

Dr. James Wani Igga, the first Deputy Chairperson and Secretary General of the SPLM party has reckoned on the significant position of Jonglei State in the history of South Sudan, and advised the new governor, Dr. Riek Gai, that it is time to end the prevalent inter-communal conflicts in the state.

This came yesterday during the swearing in ceremony of the new governor, who will now also assume the position of SPLM chairperson in Jonglei state, with Angelina Nibol Ajongo as the party’s Secretary for Financial and Economic Affairs.

Meanwhile, Bol Makuing Yuel, is the Secretary for Political Mobilization and Organizations of the party in the region.

Prof. Igga urged Dr. Gai to strive towards ending the intercommunal conflict in the state, and stop the rampant infiltration of arms among the civilian population.

Further, the party’s SG advised the governor to work closely with humanitarian organizations, and to encourage NGOs work in the state.

Stating the prevalent challenge of road infrastructure in the country, Igga implored on the new governor to train in eyes on road development in an effort to benefit the people of Jonglei.

On his part, Dr. Riek Gai Kok expressed his commitment to delivering on the mandate, and to ‘Change the state.”

“I am deeply honored to serve the people of Jonglei State. Together, we will work to foster peace, promote development, and ensure a brighter future for all,” said Dr. Riek Gai Kok.

Meanwhile, Bol Makuing Yuel, SPLM Secretary for Political Mobilization and Organization, expressed optimism in conducting the elections at the end of the transitional period.

He explained that the elections could still be done while other key processes are ongoing, so as to ensure that the country moves forward.
