The International Organization for Immigration (IOM), with support from the government of Japan, has donated a car to the Directorate of Immigration, Passports, Nationality, and Civil Registry to support the work of the immigration officers at the border of Majok in Northern Bhar el Ghazal State.

The officers are tasked with fighting human trafficking and rapid response to migrants in need of referrals at the border.

Receiving the car on behalf of the directorate of immigration on Thursday, Maj. Gen. Nyang Chot, said the car would benefit the officers who are working at the border to deliver services because there is a lot of movement at the border.

“The donation will benefit those who are working at the border now because there is a lot of movement by those who are internally displaced, the refugees and returnees are moving there, so they need delivery of services from those of immigration,” said Maj. Gen. Chot.

“This donation was given to us to support our border management for those who are working at the border by IOM, supported by the government of Japan and people of Japan. We thank them all because they always respond when we are in need. Thank you so much for your cooperation” he acknowledged.

Harris Smith, the acting head of operations at IOM, said the donation was their continuous commitment to support the directorate on immigration and border management.

“We have been working with the directorate for close to ten years now, and during those times I would like to say thanks to the people of Japan. This vehicle will particularly help the directorate in managing cross border trade, eases the issue immigration particularly in the border with Sudan” Mr Smith said.
