The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State, Louis Lobong Lojore has urged the neighboring countries of Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia to promote business, and cultural heritage along the bordering communities.

Lobong made the remarks on Sunday while addressing a visiting group of Catholic choirs from Kitgum District, Uganda.

The Christian community was on an exchange visit to Our Lady of Holy Rosary Parish of the Catholic Diocese of Torit on Sunday.

Addressing the congregation, Governor Lobong stressed the need for the promotion of culture, businesses, sport, and inter-marriages among the communities living along the neighboring borderline.

Activities like culture, and sports for the youth are things we need to encourage across the borders, and of course businesses. You must do business and we encourage the churches to do so. We encourage the communities living along the border to exchange their cultural heritage, and to encourage intermarriage,” he said. 

Governor Lobong called on the citizens to support their respective governments to speed up the integration of East Africa to provide free movement of people within the region.

“Let us support our government, our respective government to speed up the integration of East Africa so that all of us we move without being asked for passports because we still have the problem in Africa here,” he said.

Lobong added, “If you have come with a white person, he or she will be allowed to enter in and you as an African will be asked where you are from. Instead, I should be the one allowed to enter first. We need to revise this.”
