In a press statement on Friday 28, Hon. Makuei stated that the former Governor also committed several atrocities in Western Equatoria State, including continuation of the road blocks in the area.

The National Minister of Information, Communication, Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Michael Makuei, has said the former Governor of Western Equatoria State, Alfred Futuyo, was removed by President Salva Kiir as a result of his persistent intransigent, disobedient and disrespectful approach to the directives of the head of state.

In a press statement on Friday 28, Hon. Makuei stated that the former Governor also committed several atrocities in Western Equatoria State, including continuation of the road blocks in the area.

The statement by the minister came in response to the letter dated 27th February 2025, from the office of the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar to President Kiir requesting for a meeting to discuss the security situation in Upper Nile State, Western Equatoria State and Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

Makuei highlighted that the letter was written on 27th February, 2025, and delivered to the Office of the President at half past four evening while the President had gone home.  

Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Information premises in Juba, Hon. Makuei stated among the President’s main responsibility is to ensure safety and security of the country.

“The former Governor of Western Equatoria State, Afred Futuyo Karaba had been intransigent, disobedient and disrespectful to the orders and directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic and (he) committed multiple atrocities in Western Equatoria State, the least of which is the continuation of the road blocks in Western Equatoria State,” Makuei said.

“The unbecoming conduct of the former Governor of Western Equatoria State forced the President to request the Chairman of SPLM/A-IO to substitute him with another and this was completely ignored thus, for security reasons, the president, in exercising the powers vested upon him by the constitution, relieved Alfred Futuyo Karaba and requested the Chairman of SPLM/A-IO to nominate a replacement,” he explained.

“The unbecoming conduct of the former Governor of Western Equatoria State forced the President to request the Chairman of SPLM/A-IO to substitute him with another and this was completely ignored,”  Hon. Michael Makuei, Information Minister.
