Authorities in Twic East in Jonglei State have confirmed 6 cholera death cases and that 20 patients have been admitted to the hospital.
The officials blamed flooding in the area as the cause of the rapid spreading of the disease in the area.
Juach Arok, the commissioner of Twic East County said the issue of transportation and shortage of drugs for managing cholera patients remains a major challenge to the fight against the disease.
“The county health department has confirmed 26 new cases at a different area in the county, where 6 patients died. 20 patients were admitted and 5 patients were discharged from the hospital,” he said.
Arok stated that people had crowded in Twic due to the floods, and expressed worries that the cases might increase in the area.
However, Arok urged the communities to use preventive measures to reduce the rapid spreading of the diseases in the county.
He appealed to the humanitarian agencies to support the transportation of cholera patients to the health units for quick management.
Last Week, the County Health Department in Twic East of Jonglei State registered three cases of cholera and one death.
