This realignment is part of ongoing efforts by the SSPDF to adapt to the evolving security needs of South Sudan. The redeployment of senior officers is seen as critical to maintaining stability in key areas like Upper Nile State, where the military continues to manage delicate peace efforts.

The SSPDF command has marked another step in the strategic realignment of military leadership aimed at enhancing the overall effectiveness of the defense forces.’

However, this is the second time this month for such change to happened as President Salvar Kiir released Gen. Akol Koor from his position of the ISB chief and appointed Gen. Tong Aleu the former governor and undersecretary of Defense as his successor.

Meanwhile, SSPDF Spokesperson Maj Gen Lul Ruai Koang, while speaking to one of the local radios said Lt Gen Santino Deng, the Chief of Defense Force, had implemented a directive from the head of state, President Salva Kiir, to transfer Gen Lual Wek Guem, also known as Lual Maroldit, from his position as the commander of the Tiger Division to the General Headquarters in Bilpham.

Meanwhile, Abraham Gum Makuac has been appointed the new commander of the Tiger Division, Lt. Gen Santino said.

“The Chief of Defense Forces has confirmed to me officially. He said he was called and received an official letter from the Office of the President. Gen Lual has been redeployed to the 1st Infantry Division in Renk, and the commander for the 1st Division has been brought to Tiger, so they have been swapped,” the army spokesperson was quotes as saying.
