Authorities in Kapoeta East County said at least 58 out of the 109 goats previously raided by the Turkana herders were handed over on Wednesday.
This followed the effort and cooperation between the authorities of both Toposa and the Turkana of Kenya, said Abdallah Angelo, Kapoeta East County commissioner.
“On the 19th of this month, I was with the chief administrator of Lokichogio and their security here in Narus. I called them for the meeting. We sat for the security meeting and we said the Turkana are now raiding our goats and we gave them a task. They returned part of the raided goats on Wednesday,” he said.
Commissioner Angelo called for the continued effort to heighten security between the Toposa and Turkana of Kenya, to enhance peaceful co-existence along the borderlines.
On Monday, authorities in Kapoeta East County reported that about 109 goats were raided by the suspected Turkana criminals along Nadapal, the border between South Sudan and Kenya.
The commissioner called on people from the neighboring Turkana to always portray respect for one another and also consider everyone as brothers and sisters.
“Every human being should portray respect and everyone should also see his brothers and sisters and not only focus for himself that he is hungry but all the people are hungry and all people are poor,” he said in an interview with this publication.
According to the authorities, the criminal offense portrayed by the Turkana youth came after 7 months of relative calm among the neighboring communities.
In 2024, a two-day cross-border peace dialogue was held in Lokichogio Sub-County in Turkana County to strengthen peace and community resilience.
Rampant killing, child abduction, and cattle raiding were the key main issues raised by the two communities they attributed them to the limited water points and grazing land.
