Emmanuel Taban Seme, the Commissioner of Yei River County, Central Equatoria State (CES), has warned motorists of public and private vehicles against excessive alcohol consumption during the festive season, stating that this could endanger their lives during Christmas and New Year celebrations.
In his Christmas message on Wednesday, Seme said as the celebrations kick off across the country, Yei River residents should be responsible and peaceful. “As we embark on the celebrations across the country, I urge all Yei River County residents to refrain from irresponsible activities that endanger lives. I urge motorists to observe traffic rules and avoid excessive alcohol consumption and other unacceptable behaviours,” he said.
The commissioner also directed members of the regular forces in Yei County to perform their duties professionally, and intensify efforts to maintain security during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
He called on citizens to reaffirm their faith in the Christian values of tolerance, kindness and love for one another.
“As we celebrate Christmas, let us remember that the spirit of Christmas is peace, love and goodwill for all. Let us demonstrate the Christian values of tolerance, kindness and service to humanity, and I call on the people of Yei River County to make this Christmas a peaceful and safe one for all,” he said.
Retired Catholic Bishop of Yei, Ercolano Lodo Tombe stated that Jesus Christ came to save the world and as Christians celebrate his birth, let them open their hearts to receive the light of God.
He said that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world and God the Creator calls us during Christmas to open our eyes to see the light.
Bishop Tombe also stressed that: “Christmas leads us to the death, resurrection and departure of Christ to heaven to fulfill the Gospel message.”
