Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State have detained a 16-year-old teenager for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in Makuac Keer of Aweil East County on Saturday.
According to the source who spoke to The City Review, the incident happened when the mother of the girl had gone fishing leaving her alone in the house.

The suspect is said to be a close friend to the brother of the victim. He pretended to sleep at the friend’s home but later at night he sneaked to the girl’s room and raped her.
“They (relatives) took the victim to the Médecins Sans Frontières hospital (MSF).
The source revealed that the suspect is currently under the Special Protection Unity in Aweil town.
The incident is one of the many cases of rape that have surfaced from Aweil.
On November 12, 2021, a 17-year-old girl who was raped at gunpoint in Aweil lost a court case against the defendant, John Yel Angok, 43, who was working as a clerk at Aweil High Court.

Yel was accused of molesting the girl in 2019 at the time that the latter was staying with her nephew. The girl’s guardian was a neighbour to the accused and all residing were residents in Mathiang residential area in Aweil town.
The City Review found out through a confidential source that the girl was raped after being threatened by the attacker at night that she would be killed by pistol, forcing her to submit and sleep with the accused till morning.
With gnashing an excruciating pain, the girl, who was only 15 years old at the time, reported the case to her nephew, Awol Got, who immediately filed a police report and obtained a form 8 to allow the victim to seek treatment at an MSF hospital after a rape confirmation.

In a separate incident in June 2021, national media reported that police in Aweil West County detained an 18-year-old teenager suspected of raping an 11-year-old.
And in this year, on January 22, Eye Radio also reported about the incident of a 16-year-old boy who was admitted to Nyamlel Hospital, after he was reportedly raped by a man in the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
The majority of the rape and defilement incidents are perpetrated in Aweil are against young girls and women.
