The newly appointed Governor of Warrap State, Bol Wek Agoth, on Saturday held a community consultative meeting with the citizens of the state in Juba, in a bid to find a comprehensive approach to restoring peace and security in Warrap State.

The discussions focused on ways to establish law and order by promoting a hybrid system that supports traditional authorities in conflict resolution.

In his speech during the event, Governor  Wek  briefed the attendees on the state of emergency in Warrap and sought their opinions on the most suitable low-cost measures the state government could take to achieve peace and development under the state of emergency declared by President Salva Kiir on June 5, 2025.

In response to the concerns raised, the governor affirmed that his government would ensure the safety of all civilians from external and internal threats despite the absence of their personal weapons following disarmament.

Governor Wek stated that his administration will not condone incitement, and that anyone who mobilizes communities to war will be dealth with through the law.

“My government is holding a firm position on zero tolerance on incitement. Anyone who incites or mobilize communities to engage in violence regardless of his or her position and status in society will face the full force of the law. Even those with immunity will not be spared,” Governor Wek said

He also pointed to a comprehensive plan to enhance Warrap State’s self-sufficiency during and after the current state of emergency.

Governor Wek outlined an ambitious mission that includes rehabilitating internal roads, promoting decentralization, strengthening traditional authorities, developing markets, and increasing agricultural production as means to eradicate poverty and lay the foundation for a peaceful and prosperous state.

He urged the concerned members to act promptly in disseminating the nature of the current state of emergency in Warrap among their citizens to ensure its peaceful, effective, and efficient implementation.

Earlier this month, President Salva Kiir appointed Ambassador Bol Week Agoth as Governor of Warrap State following deadly clashes in the area that led to loss of 60 innocent lives.

The President then declared a state of emergency in Warrap State and Mayom County in Unity State. The decree mandates the disarmament of armed civilians in both regions.

The state of emergency order allows the government to deploy additional security forces and take all necessary measures.

Following the declaration of the state of emergency, the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) conducted aerial raids in conflict-affected areas to disperse armed youth who had gathered in preparation to carry out attacks, according to state officials.

Since then, the army has been deployed to the affected areas to restore calm and disarm armed groups.
